• Gandhiji, during this period, asked the Congressmen to take up constructive work, especially in the villages, that would consolidate people’s power and open the way to mobilisation of millions.

• Another section of the Congressmen advocated the revival of Constitutional methods of struggle and participation in the elections to the Central Legislative Assembly. This section included names, such as M. A. Ansari, Bhulabhai Desai, Asaf Ali and B.C. Roy.

• A strong leftist trend, that had developed in early 1930s, proposed continuation of non-Constitutional mass movement, as its discontinuation would side-track direct mass action and political work among the masses and divert attention from basic issue of struggle against the colonial rule.

• Jawaharlal Nehru opposed Gandhian strategy of Struggle Truce Struggle. He believed that, whatever might have been the case in the past, the Indian National Movement has now reached a stage, where there should be permanent confrontation and conflict with imperialism, till it was overthrown.
