The Global Food Security Index was designed and constructed by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The objective of the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) is to determine which countries are most and least vulnerable to food insecurity. The GFSI is a dynamic quantitative and qualitative benchmarking model that measures drivers of food security across 113 countries.

It ranks countries on the basis of four criteria:

• Affordability;

• Availability;

• Quality and safety; and

• Natural resource and resilience
