The Intensive Dairy Development Programme (IDDP) was launched in 1993-94 for helping Non-Operation Flood, and hilly and backward areas. The scheme was modified in March, 2005. It was also extended to some districts of Operation Flood programme.

Following are the main objectives of IDDP:

(i) Development of milch cattle.

(ii) Increasing milk production by providing technical input services.

(iii) Ensure remunerative prices to the milk producers.

(iv) Generate additional employment opportunities.

(v) Procurement, processing and marketing of milk in a cost effective manner.

(vi) Improve social, nutritional and economic status of residents of compraratively more disadvantaged areas.
