The IIP is a measure of industrial performance which sheds some light on where we stand in terms of industrial growth.

The IIP is estimated and published on a monthly basis by the National Statistical Office (NSO).

As an all India index, it gives general level of industrial activity in the economy.

The three sectors included in IIP are mining sector, manufacturing sector and electricity sector.

Note: Recently, the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) was merged with the Central Statistics Office (CSO) to form the National Statistical Office (NSO).

Earlier, the IIP was estimated and published on a monthly basis by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
