• Francois Bernier: François Bernier (25 September 1620 – 22 September 1688) was a French physician and traveller. He was the personal physician of the Mughal prince Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and after Dara Shikoh’s demise, was attached to the court of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. He wrote Travels in the Mughal India, which is mainly about the reign of Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb.

• Giovanni Careri was a 17th century Italian adventurer and traveller. He passed through India c. 1690 his testimony provides a graphic account about the way silver travelled across the globe to reach India. It also gives us an idea of the phenomenal amounts of cash and commodity transactions in the seventeenth-century India.

• Tavernier was a 17th century French gem merchant and traveller. His writings give an account of the Mughal Empire.
