• The Pallavas introduced the art of excavating temples from the rock. In fact, the Dravidian style of temple architecture began with the Pallava rule.

• It was a gradual evolution, starting from the cave temples to monolithic rathas and culminated in structural temples.

• The Kailashanath temple at Kanchi and the Shore temple at Mahabalipuram remain the finest examples of the early structural temples of the Pallavas. The temple at Kanchi is the greatest architectural master piece of the Pallava art.

• Pattadakal served as the capital of the Chalukya dynasty, who built the temples. The Papanatha temple was built by them.

• Built by Raja Raja I in 1010 AD, the Brihadeshwara Temple is an ancient temple at Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. The temple is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as the “Great Living Chola Temples”.
